Football's Greatest - Sir Bobby Charlton
Football's Greatest was a TV series that started on the June 10, 2010 and finished on July 11, 2010 on Sky Sports for the World Cup. There were 26 shows in total all narrated by Richard Keys, 25 featuring one footballer for each show.
Sir Robert "Bobby" Charlton CBE (born 11 October 1937) is an English former football player, regarded as one of the greatest midfielders of all time, and an essential member of the England team who won the World Cup and also won the Ballon d'Or for European Footballer of the Year in 1966. He played almost all of his club football at Manchester United, where he became renowned for his attacking instincts and passing abilities from midfield and his ferocious long-range shot. He was also well known for his fitness and stamina. His elder brother Jack, who was also in the World Cup-winning team, is a former defender for Leeds United and international manager.
Born in Ashington, Northumberland, Charlton made his debut for the Manchester United first-team in 1956, and over the next two seasons gained a regular place in the team, during which time he survived the Munich air disaster of 1958 after being rescued by Harry Gregg. After helping United to win the Football League in 1965, he won a World Cup medal with England in 1966 and another Football League title with United the following year. In 1968, he captained the Manchester United team that won the European Cup, scoring two goals in the final to help his team be the first English side to win the competition. He has scored more goals for England and United than any other player. Charlton held the record for most appearances for Manchester United (758),[1] before being surpassed by Ryan Giggs.
He was selected for four World Cups (1958, 1962, 1966, and 1970), and helped England to win the competition in 1966. At the time of his retirement from the England team in 1970, he was the nation's most capped player, having turned out 106 times at the highest level. This record has since been eclipsed by Bobby Moore, Peter Shilton and then David Beckham.
He left Manchester United to become manager of Preston North End for the 1973--74 season.[2] He changed to player-manager the following season. He next accepted a post as a director with Wigan Athletic, then became a member of Manchester United's board of directors in 1984[3] and remains one as of May 2013.

Baggio doen't have his own episode in this series but Shearer does? No disrespect to Shearer (he was good), but that's an absurdity.
Kevin Keegan The Best
my grandad hero. my Dad hero. my hero
So biased. Way too many Man U players
Romario pure class
Socrates deserved to win that 1982 World Cup for the most thrilling performance and collection of the most spectacular and awe inspiring goals in World Cup history by the Brazil 1982 team
Love Socrates the best
They should’ve included Romario, Rivaldo, R9, Patrick Kluivert, Ronald Koeman, Michael Ballack, Sócrates, Roberto Carlos, Oliver Kahn, Diego Forlan and Andrei Schevchenko.
Kevin Keegan
One of the very very best. Up there with pele maradona puskas and so on. A beautifully balanced player
Tavy@ bobby is the greatest england player of all time. Stanley mathews and tom finney dont come close. He was up there with george best, pele, maradona, di stefano, beckenbuar, puskas, c,ronaldo, messi, am suprised he doesnt get mentioned in the same way as those i just mentioned. The man was world class, if bobby was to hit a 30 yarder these days he would probably burst the ball lol with those lighter balls !!!!!!!!!!
most of these have their own episode dedicated to them now
As comfortable on the ball as any Brazilian, As ferocious a shot with both feet as any striker, As brave as any German, As humble a gentleman as we will find. Fit as an athlete with his explosive pace. Strength to go with this to. He kept possession very well. Medals to show too. Easily the best british player ever. For me..... One of the best 4/5 players ever.
Respect to him from a Liverpool fan. But he wasn't even the best United player back in the day. Not to mention that you have Pele, Maradona, Ronaldo, Cruyff, Zidane, Messi, Puskas, Cristiano, Garrincha to name a few above him.
Very well articulated mate.I cant add anything exept to say i agree. He was a genius
@@ivaylospasov7812 Duncan Edwards was better than them all at 18 years old
@@marcmaddock9980 tragic end to his story though
@@ivaylospasov7812oh sod off. Much better player than any Liverpool has ever had.
Maybe not the greatest of all time! ...if you would ask him....? He wouldn`t care fpr sur! ...but maybe the greatest (n maybe the smartest) Gent and ambassador for this sport! A real Sir! Greets from Austria!
Bobby charlton is my favorite player
